  • Practice Assignment for Today, Tuesday, March 17th.

    Dear Musician,

The Practice Assignment for Today, Tuesday, March 17th is......drum roll, please.....!

    Warm -up:

Concert Bb, Eb and F scales in denominations of whole, half, quarter, eighth, and if possible, sixteenth notes. Play along with a virtual metronome you may access through Google for free, at a comfortable tempo.

Practice “Gravity Falls Theme”  without the accompaniment,  very slowly, to ensure rhythmic and note accuracy. Repeat. three times.

Play along with the recording; repeat notes you may have had trouble with, then play along with the recording until you can play the song in a steady tempo with rhythmic and note accuracy.

You may e-mail me audio of your performance, no video, and I will respond with helpful tips.

Bonus: Search on youtube.com for the sheet music to the Irish standard, “Danny Boy” (example: Danny Boy sheet music for alto sax), and learn it. If you e-mail me audio, no video, of your performance, you may earn up to 5 LOMS’ Dollars!

    Have FUN!

  • Practice Regimen

    Dear Musician,

A most effective means of practicing is to play scales and the concert band repertoire: “Gravity Falls”, “Starsplitter Fanfare”, and “Walking on Sunshine.” You may reference the songs on my webpage, or on youtube.com by simply typing in the song title. If you prefer to e-mail me audio (no video) of you playing the songs, I will write you back with some helpful tips.

If you left your instrument at school, please call the main office and make arrangements to pick it up.

    Have FUN!

  • WELCOME TO BAND!

    FIFTH/SIXTH GRADE BAND UPDATE

Thank you for joining band! I am elated that you elected to play in band and I am so excited to teach and play the 2019-20 repertoire. If there are any songs you would like to request the band to play, please let me know!

Thank you for remitting your registration form and $25.00 fee. If you have not already done so, please send it in as soon as possible, and of course notify me if there is a problem.

Fifth grade lessons occur on Wednesdays and sixth grade lessons, Thursdays, on a rotating basis. Please bring your instrument on your assigned day, and you may leave your sheet music/band folder at home; I will supply you with duplicates for in-school use.

Students are expected to practice twenty minutes at least twice-a-week. Please bring your instrument home; do not leave it in your teacher's classroom. Recordings are posted on my web page and are a terrific source of inspiration, education, practice aid

Early morning band rehearsals will occur on Mondays and Thursdays at 8:00 a.m. beginning in mid-January. Students are only required to attend one lesson a week, or more if they prefer.  Excessive unexcused absences (present in school; absent from band) of six or more may exclude them from performing in the concert.

Generally, fifth and sixth grade students skip the winter concert and focus on preparing for the spring 2019 concert; however, continuing students - those with prior years' experience in band - will be given the opportunity to learn the following selections: Gospel from Monster’s U; Pacem Noel; It’s A Marshmallow World and It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, to perform with the seventh and eighth grade band in the winter concert! Very exciting; but students must be well prepared in order to qualify.......so PRACTICE!

Thanks in advance for a GREAT year! Please contact me with any questions. Thank you for your support! You are instrumental to our success!

    Thanks so much!
